Botong Miao was born in Beijing, China. She received her B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees at the University of Science and Technology of Beijing. She later joined the research group of Prof. Kirk H. Bevan at the Department of Materials Engineering, McGill University, and received her Ph.D. degree. Her Ph.D. research focused on theoretically exploring the catalytic performance at the semiconductor-liquid/metal interface. 

Recently, Botong has become a member of Prof. Chao-Jun Li's research group and is working on theoretically developing strategies to accelerate the CO2 and CH4 conversion efficiency.
